Weighted Grade Calculator
Homework, quizzes, midterms, finals — every category counts differently. Enter each one with its weight and grade to see your overall class grade instantly.
Why weighted grades surprise people
A weighted average isn't intuitive: acing every homework in a 20%-weight category moves your grade less than a mediocre score on a 35%-weight final drags it down. Reading your syllabus's grading breakdown at the start of the semester — and checking this calculator after each big grade lands — keeps you from discovering the math the hard way in December.
The highest-weight categories are almost always exams, and exam scores respond to how you study more than how long. Turning your notes into flashcards with AI flashcards and reviewing them on a spaced schedule is the most reliable way we know to protect the grades that count the most.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each category grade by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight. For example: homework 95 × 20%, quizzes 88 × 20%, midterm 84 × 25%, final 90 × 35% gives (19 + 17.6 + 21 + 31.5) = 89.1%. This calculator does the same math and updates as you type.
What if my category weights do not add up to 100%?
That's common mid-semester, when some categories have no grades yet. The calculator scales by the weights you entered, which is equivalent to asking: what is my grade in the parts of the course completed so far? As more categories fill in, the result converges to your true course grade.
How can I raise my grade in a weighted class?
Focus effort where weight times remaining points is largest — usually the final exam or a big project. A 5-point improvement on a 35%-weight final moves your course grade seven times more than the same improvement on a 5%-weight homework category. Then use our final grade calculator to see exactly what score you need.
